Equipment you Need to Become a Master Fly Fisherman

Just as with any other sport, the equipment you use when fly fishing can be very important. There are various types of equipment that you need when you undertake fly fishing, and be prepared because some of it can get quite expensive!

Of course, you’ll need a rod and reel. What type of rod you choose depends on the type of fish you will be angling for. Fly rods are ranked according to their net weight capabilities (nwt). The nwt number will tell you what type of fish you will be able to catch. Fish that weigh 8 pounds will require at least an 8 nwt rod, etc. The larger the nwt number, the larger fish you can catch.

Some rods are multi-rated (e.g. 7-9 nwt). These rods are good to use because they can accommodate a variety of fish, but multi-rated rods tend to be less flexible than single rated rods.

Rods are made of fiberglass, graphite, or bamboo. Fiberglass rods are durable and less expensive. Fiberglass rods are best for beginning fly fishermen because they can be used in a variety of situations. Graphite rods are lighter and will give you more fighting weight when it comes to landing a fish. Bamboo rods can be expensive, but they are extremely strong and are suited to a more laid-back casting style.

Your Fly Line will need to match the nwt of your rod. If you have an 8 nwt rod, you’ll need to use an 8 nwt line. It is acceptable to go one or two sizes above or below your rod weight (i.e. 9 nwt or 7 nwt). Buy line that is strong and durable. Some lines are specially designed for freshwater, saltwater, etc.

You will also need to have a durable net that you can carry with you. After the fish has lost its will to fight, a good net is used to scoop them out of the water. This can be a big part of your fly fishing equipment because without a good net, you won’t be able to get your fish out of the water!

Having the right fly fishing equipment is important for both the beginner as well as the experienced angler. As you get better and better at the sport, you will begin to see how important having good equipment can be. You can always upgrade, so it’s good to start out small and work your way up to the more expensive stuff. Your fly fishing equipment can make a world of difference between landing that big fish or catching an ordinary one.

Choosing A Graphite Freshwater Fishing Rod

Purchasing a rod can be one of the most difficult parts of getting started in fishing. There are a dizzying array of options available, all claiming to be superior to the rods next to them. Before you jump into a decision you will regret, it always pays to educate yourself on just what it is you need to, and therefore should, acquire.

The first step in acquiring a fishing rod is to purchase a blank. This refers to the rod proper, which is a shaft of varying materials on which you mount a reel and some line. Shafts can be purchased in three different materials: graphite, fiberglass, and bamboo. Bamboo rods are generally used for fly fishing and can be quite expensive. Fiberglass rods are generally for beginner use, and are the type you find at your local Wal-Mart or other department type stores. Graphite is the material of choice for serious fisherman, and can be found many places online, or at your local sporting goods stores. For this article, we will concentrate on graphite rods.

Fishing rods come in varying strengths and will be measured in terms of modulus. Modulus refers to the density of the weave of the material from which the rod blank is fashioned. Graphite rods generally come with a modulus between 33 million and 60 million. The higher the modulus, the stiffer the rod will be. The higher modulus rods will also be lighter, faster, and more sensitive. As a trade-off however, high modulus rods are more brittle than lower modulus fishing rods.

Sensitivity is also an important factor when choosing a rod blank. As a general rule, the deeper the water that you are fishing in, the higher sensitivity you will want, so that you can feel the more subtle bites. The last thing you want is to have to go home and tell the story about the one that got away!

One factor that affects sensitivity of your rod, besides material of the shaft, is the handle construction. Usually the handles are made from cork or foam. You should ensure that the handle feels comfortable in your hand and that it is not too soft, otherwise you may not be able to feel those aforementioned subtle bites. Also, if you are fishing with any type of artificial bait, it is crucial to be able to feel the movement of the bait through the rod to ensure that you are enticing the fish in the proper manner.

To learn more about factors you should consider in choosing the proper rod, be sure to visit Angling Rods.com.

Shimano Clarus: Another Shimano Rod Innovation

Those of you who love fishing as a sport would not be surprised by the amazing new line of Shimano rods. The Shimano Clarus combines sleek beauty with muscle at a very affordable price. You would think that a fishing rod of this caliber would be priced at more than a hundred dollars, but you’re wrong. The Shimano Clarus ranges from only $59.99 to $89.99. This is a real value for your money in today’s fishing equipment industry because a typical rod would be in the hundred dollar price range.

The typical sport fishing enthusiast would have his or her own style of catching fish. Each fisherman has his own distinct set of practices and peculiarities. That’s why fishing rods come in a variety of models. The Shimano Clarus line offers casting and spinning rods with different specifications to meet the demands of today’s sport fishing fans.

The Shimano Clarus comes in one-piece and two-piece models. The one-piece type is for those who want to get a more natural feel while fishing. And the two-piece type is for the sport fisherman who has to consider storage space.

To be able to succeed at fishing, you need to use the right equipment. First, let us consider power value. Power value or rod weight is the indicator of what type of fish you intend to catch. The power value ratings range from ultra light to ultra heavy. Typically, a Heavy to Ultra-Heavy rod is used for big game fishing and an ultra light one is used for small bait catching. Basically, if you are into bigger and heavier fish, opt for the heavy side of the range and vice versa. Shimano Clarus offers these ranges for both the spinning and casting rods.

Another angle to look into when choosing a rod is the “action.” Action refers to the ability of the rod to bend and revert back to its natural shape. This is vital because this pertains to the rod’s flexibility. A fast action rod typically bends at the tip and a slow action rod tends to bend at the butt part. But note that action is a very subjective standard. What may be considered fast in a certain type of rod may be considered fast in another type. Also, construction is considered in this case. For example, comparing a fiberglass and a bamboo rod, a typical medium bamboo made rod would be bend faster than a fast fiberglass rod.

Line Weight and lure weight are also important consideration points when buying a fishing. rod. Line weight is the equivalent of tensile strength, in grains or in pounds, of the rod. Shimano Clarus, like all other Shimano rods, offer a variety of line weight to choose from to attend to the fishing style employed by different lovers of the sport. Lure weight refers to the hook weight that the rod supports.

The Shimano Clarus’ graphite blank makes for a sensitive and responsive rod that serves its function perfectly without sacrificing its form. So if you’re looking for the right kind of rod to cater to your needs, the Shimano Clarus offers you your perfect match-a balance of performance and beauty at the right price. So don’t forget, Shimano Clarus, another Shimano rod innovation genius.

Fly Fishing Rod- Reel In The Right One

It is apparent that fly fishing differs from the regular fishing methods in various ways. Such significant distinctions help in making fly fishing rod to be an obvious fly fishing piece to purchase.

The conventional fishing would use a rod that is equipped with transparent, monofilament and a nearly weightless line for casting a weighted hook within the water. Making use of a weighted and translucent line casting a weightless hook in the water is essentially reversed in Fly fishing. The actions of fly fishing rods are required for being able to cast the fly.

The act of fly fishing is different from conventional fishing in a way that the fly fisherman never puts his rod down. These fishermen cast the whole time they are actually fishing. Such activity makes the decision for buying the perfect rod to very essential. Anglers who fly fish would spend their whole fishing day making casts and having the rod in their hand.

The method of getting in a fish, again, is different in fly fishing. The fishing reel seems to be very important when traditional fishing is concerned. However, it is not quite important for fly fishing. In this type of fishing, the fishermen use a method of stripping the line by hand. Fly fishing reel is commonly used for spare line, like a storage compartment.

The idea about buying the fly fishing rod is indeed a vital decision that would make an impact on the enjoyment you would get from the sport. Most of the modern rods of fly fishing are made from types of graphite compound. However, there are some bamboos rods also designed but are quite expensive when compared to graphite rods. There are, however several alternatives of graphite rods for fly fishing available.

The fly fishing rods are often categorized by weight. A 6-weight rod is also written as 6wt, for instance. Weights of the fly fishing rod you buy would be decided by the place you are intending to fish. Hence, it is significant to use line which goes fine with the weight of the fly fishing rod while you fish. Few rods are developed to be multi-weight fishing rods and could be safely used with various other weights of line.

A general rule while shopping for any fly fishing rod is purchasing an expensive rod that you could afford. The advice is bases itself on the comprehension that the fly fishing rod is one of the most vital fly fishing equipment of the fly fishing outfit. One could always upgrade the reel sometime later if decided for acquiring a better reel.

An all time good idea is to visit several shops which sell fly fishing gear prior to making the final choice. Even if one plans the purchase of their fly fishing rod over the internet shop, it would be quite good to essentially handle several other rods before concluding on the final decision. Ensure to remember that while the fly fishermen tend to be bunch of opinionated people, fly fishing rods often are personal choices. If any rod does not find it comfortable within your hands it hardly matters which expert recommends that rod. The choice would also be greatly influenced by the place you intend fishing. For instance, the smaller mountain streams in New England would require a much lighter rod compared to great rivers in Rocky Mountains of Utah.

Why go Direct to a Manufacturer?

On the face of it cutting out the middle man is a great idea. After all – we buy insurance direct from the company – and cut out the broker, and we buy clothes direct from the outlet – and cut out the retailer. We even buy food direct from the farmers market and cut out the supermarket. But how effective is that for a specialist purchase of say office furniture. It’s the sort of purchase that most companies only make every 7-10 years – and let’s be honest it’s never cheap. If we go direct to the manufacturer, we can cut out the dealer – and the margin they add -can’t we? Many people think that the typical office furniture dealer just introduces a product, and adds their profit to the final invoice. For that reason it makes sense to ‘go direct’ – until that is you look at the bigger picture.

A manufacturer can only sell you the articles they themselves produce. They are limited by their very nature to offer what they have, rather than what you perhaps need. They will try and convince you that their offering is perfect, because what other option have they got? They can’t draw on another range that is cheaper, better quality or faster to get in stock. And the price? You have to remember that most office furniture manufacturers sell their goods through a dealer network. It makes sense as they are all over the country and already have customers who buy furniture from them. The manufacturer offers preferential discount terms to their dealers because they place continuous business month after month, and year after year. The last thing they want to do is upset their dealers by allowing an ‘end user’ to cut them out and buy direct. Not that a factory will tell you this – they will profess to be cheaper and faster than the dealer route.

Dealers are naturally placed to serve the customer (end user) and the factory is more often not. Often the factory is slow to react, and information and lead times slow to come through. Dealers are used to the factories and know who to call and who to shout at in the event of a problem.

Also, there are often unseen costs that customers underestimate as well. Costs like the designing of an office, the physical installation of the goods, the admin costs to manage the order and make sure it’s all going according to plan and that everyone is kept in the loop and organised. With the massive rise in fuel costs, the installation costs can be horrendous. Manufacturers typically charge a % of the RRP of the furniture to calculate an installation cost. One large manufacturer charges 20% of the RRP to the dealer – and many dealers swallow the cost to help the customer.

Then there is the ‘hassle factor’. How much is it worth to your business to be able to leave an order to one contact, to liaise with and deal with as necessary. A good dealer will take the stress away and more than likely will present you with smaller invoice than the one if you go ‘direct’. Remember on the face of it buying direct looks appealing – but the devils in the detail.

Choosing the Right Mattress

Choosing the Right Mattress

Buying a new mattress is an important decision, and given the options available is one that can take time.

At UKBedsOnline.com we understand how confusing the options can be and are here to help with your selection and purchase.

Comfort

The biggest factor in choosing the right mattress for you will be Comfort. This choice is completely down to personal preference.

One important point to remember is that the firmer the mattress is, does not necessarily mean the best night’s sleep! Mattresses are constructed using many different spring options andor many different materials.

Please read our mattress construction guide below.

The Price

When choosing a mattress it is important to remember that most mattresses last for up to 10 years and come with a Manufacturer’s Guarantee. Every £100 you spend on a mattress equates to roughly 2.7p a night over a 10 year period. A mattress can cost up to £3000 and the average spend is approximately about £800.

All our online prices are often heavily reduced from normal RRP. We aim to keep our online business as cost effective as possible to enable us to pass on massive savings to you, the Customer.

When making your selection, please remember that all our mattresses are made up and shipped directly from the manufacturers. All purchases are delivered Free to England and Wales. Unless otherwise stated we do not sell any shop soiled or seconds.

Choosing a Mattress to suit a Bedstead or Divan Base

If you are choosing a mattress to suit an existing bedsteadbed frame or divan base, you will find all our mattresses suitable for this purpose.

However, please ensure you measure the base to ensure your new mattress size will be suitable. You will need to allow approx half an inch leeway.

Custom Made Sizes

With some mattresses we can provide a custom made size option. Please contact us for further details.

Mattress Construction in more detail

Continuous Coil

This is the cheapest type of bed mattress, made from a single looped wire. At UKBedsOnline.com we normally recommend this option for light use with Single beds.

Open Coil

One step up from continuous coil, often called Bonnell Springs. Open-coil mattresses are made of single springs fixed together by wire.

Pocket Sprung

In these mattresses, the springs are sewn into individual fabric pockets. They provide better support for your body, as each coil absorbs the weight individually. So pocket sprung mattresses are good if you sleep on your side, which puts different pressures on your spine. And if you move around a lot in your sleep, your partner is less likely to feel it.

Dual Pocket Spring System

Two-tier pocket system for superior support. Each spring is sewn into an individual fabric pocket allowing each spring to move independently and respond to the body’s every movement and contour.

Latex Foam

Latex foam is naturally anti-allergenic and also has anti-microbial properties. They are a good choice for the allergy sufferer. Latex foam also inhibits the growth of bacteria and mould.

This type of mattress is increasingly popular in Europe. It is ‘no turn’ mattress and comes in various tensions to offer more choice to the customer.

Memory foam mattress/ memory mattress

Memory Foam was originally developed by NASA for astronauts on space shuttles.

Memory Foam responds to the temperature and weight of the body to shape to the user and recover its original shape after the pressure and temperature has been removed.

This revolutionary foam can be a good option if you’re allergic to house dust mites.

QuiltedPillow ToppedTufted

An added luxury mattress topping option designed to enhance comfort.

There are a variety of additional foam or material options available, ranging from synthetic materials to natural materials.

Advice following Purchase

Once unwrapped, mattresses often have a chemical smell, this is completely normal and usually fades over a period of one week.

We recommend ‘airing’ your mattress once all packaging has been removed for approximately 4 hours before use.

We do recommend turning your mattress at least once every 3 months. Although not essential, this will help keep your mattress structurally sound and help you get a longer life from your mattress.

If you have purchased a ‘No Turn’ mattress, we still recommend turning your mattress at least once a year.

Please see our Recycling page http://www.ukbedsonline.com/content/9-recycling-bed-mattress for further advice on disposing of your old mattress.

Raising Turkeys – 6 Reasons Why You Should Start

Raising Turkeys – 6 Reasons Why You Should Start

Turkeys have been around for a long time. Turkey history actually starts millions of years ago. Their fossils have been found in Pleistocene deposits which means that they have been around more than twelve thousand years and their predecessors go back 50 to 60 million years to the Eocene period. Since the modern domesticated turkey is a descendant of the Wild Turkey, it is surmised that ancient Mesoamericans had chosen to domesticate and raise this species rather than the Ocellated Turkey which is found in far southern Mexico.

Turkeys require most of their care and attention during the first couple months. After this time they become much easier to care for. Turkeys are friendly and curious by nature. There are many reasons to raise turkeys.

1) Turkeys as food

Turkeys are traditionally eaten as the main course of large feasts at Christmas in much of the world, as well as Thanksgiving in the United States and Canada, though this tradition has its origins in modern times, rather than colonial as is often supposed. Sliced turkey is frequently used as a sandwich meat or served as cold cuts. Ground turkey is sold just as ground beef, and is frequently marketed as a healthy beef substitute. Without careful preparation, cooked turkey is usually considered to end up less moist than other poultry meats such as chicken or duck.

Wild turkeys, while technically the same species as domesticated turkeys, have a very different taste from farm-raised turkeys. Almost all of the meat is “dark” (even the breast) with a more intense flavor. Turkey is often found as a processed meat. It can be smoked and as such is sometimes sold as turkey ham. The white meat of turkey is generally considered healthier and less fattening than the dark meat, but the nutritional differences are small.

2) Turkeys as pets

While most that raise turkeys raise them for eating, some keep turkeys as a pet. This has been known to destroy their commercial value as Thanksgiving dinner. And some do both, keep some as a pet while eating the others. There are many different breeds of turkeys; however there are two varieties, domestic and wild. The wild turkey lives and breeds in the wild and some are kept as pets. It can fly and is said to be smarter than the domestic. The domestic turkeys are the type eaten on thanksgiving and they cannot fly. The domestic and wild turkeys are physically different.

Animal welfare groups such as Farm Sanctuary claim that turkeys are bright and social animals that can make suitable companion animals. US President George W. Bush noted the long tradition of keeping turkeys as pets in his 2001 National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation speech. Bush noted that Abraham Lincoln’s son Tad kept a turkey as a White House pet.

Raising Turkeys – 4 Reasons Why You Should Start To Raise Turkeys

Turkeys have been around for a long time. Turkey history actually starts millions of years ago. Their fossils have been found in Pleistocene deposits which means that they have been around more than twelve thousand years and their predecessors go back 50 to 60 million years to the Eocene period. Since the modern domesticated turkey is a descendant of the Wild Turkey, it is surmised that ancient Mesoamericans had chosen to domesticate this species rather than the Ocellated Turkey which is found in far southern Mexico.
