Flash Games: the Road to Adventure

The gaming world is always up to something new and scintillating. The entertainment industry is trying to come up with innovative and advanced games which allure people within seconds. To make this fun cost effective, there are several sites present which offer free online games thereby increasing the level of excitement in the player. The online games are proving themselves to be an excellent platform for mental stimulation and sharpness.

The latest rage is Macromedia Flash player which is software used for developing of scintillating games. Flash games provide ultimate fun and adventure when playing and time seems to fly at a great speed. Moreover, all websites offering flash games also support links to different services such as a list of hotels, free travel agency downloads etc. Flash has a distinct coding language which is known as Actionscript which was designed by Macromedia. Hence if a person wants to develop a game in Flash he/she should be familiar with Actionscript.

The games are generally very easy to understand and children hardly take any time to learn and comprehend them. Broadly speaking flash games are games meant for a single player, designed in a simple way and rather quick. Many people enjoy playing these games at work or during their lunch hours. The games have a mesmerising effect on their players and they add a touch of realism to the environment or the situation in which the games are set up. Some of the online flash games give the player an impression that he/she is in a Hollywood show or in the streets of Las Vegas.

These games are so addictive and enthralling that people stick to their computer for long hours without feeling the need to take a break. The free flash games hold various benefits as opposed to the conventional computer games as they are generally free without any charges these games are fun and have appealing graphics. Game developing companies are coming with various exciting flash games which have great storylines and are rather addictive.

Two of the most popular games are Alien Hominid and Diner Dash. These games are increasing traffic and have become a source for internet marketing. Players can download the latest flash games from the concerned websites which immediately brings in traffic. One of the major reasons why flash games are hugely popular is because they are equipped with comprehensive guidelines, easy instructions and are easy to download.

Why Flash Websites Are A Bad Idea

Flash websites… you know the type. They’re the ones where pages blip and fly across the screen, music blares from your PC speakers and type is so small you would need to be bit-sized to read it. These days, designers are everywhere trying to convince clients and firms alike, that Flash gives them more options and allows them to express themselves more creatively.

Well, when did a designer’s creativity take precedence over plain old effectiveness? Let’s take a moment to pick apart Flash websites and three major accessibility problems associated with them.

The first of our Flash site perils: User accessibility.

Let’s talk Atmosphere, since that is what the designers will try and sell you on first. Like a storefront or good restaurant, atmosphere is probably the most important factor of a website. How comfortable is your site? How intuitive is it on which to find information? How easy is the text to read?

One of the most beautiful things about properly built websites, is their accessibility to the public. Properly built HTML websites are marvels of modern technology: accessible on the web, by cell phone, with speech options for the blind, and even changeable text size for the poor of vision. There are too many ways in which professional website designers make sites accessible to the broadest range of the public to go into in this article, but they allow each visitor’s experience to be uniquely tailored to their own viewing needs and preferences. The best websites provide quality content in an atmosphere that entices a visitor to stay as long as possible, and promise new content to keep them coming back.

Let me ask you, how many flash websites do you visit often, or even have bookmarked in your browser? Probably not too many. Having been a professional web designer and marketing consultant for years, I can tell you with great certainty that no one stays on a flash site very long. The format is cramped. The type is small. The beeping gets old quickly, and although you may have the most exceptional tastes in music, let us presume that not everyone will share in your interests. I personally, upon visiting a site that decides to play music, leave and never return.

While Flash is great at offering lot’s of options to designers, it’s exceptionally poor at offering proportionate options to site visitors. Flash powered sites are inaccessible by cell phone (to date no phone that I know of can run Flash, not even an iPhone, which has one of the most sophisticated web browsers of any phone on the market). But, that’s not even the worst part, Flash is also inaccessible to anyone without ActiveX plugins installed on their computer. Now, you may think that everyone Must Have Flash / ActiveX on their computers by now… think again. Most of people that will be viewing your business’ website, will be doing so from their cubicle at work, and companies are exerting tighter and tighter controls over what their employees can see or do over the web… and that includes your Flash website. So, if your small business has some great flashy website, kiss corporate America goodbye.

Here’s the second thing that you can write off about your Flash site: Search Engine Accessibility (i.e. being found on Google and the like.)

No, I’m not kidding. With a Flash website, you can count yourself out for ever attaining page one, two, or even three of a Google search, and the reason is pretty simple: Google will have no idea what your site says or is about. Search engines base their ranking on two very important criteria: how many QUALITY pages link to your site (you may still be alright there, if you have been doing your SEO publishing) and how much relevant content there is on your site for the search term in question. Now, considering that Google and all of the other search engines will not be able to read the text on your Flash site, your chances of producing relevant content results are less than favorable.

Here’s the last of our Flash site perils: Administrative Accessibility

Maybe you’ve already run into this problem. You have a great site, but you need some changes made and you are no longer using the designer that created the site for you. You call your current designer and ask for the changes, only to have them tell you that they just can’t do it, because they don’t have the master file. Flash sites are notorious for this. There is a public file that is accessed from the web, this is the file that viewers see when they go to your domain and it is also the file on your hosting account. This file is protected from import or change. However, there is also a master file in which the site was created and in which all changes must be made. Flash designers guard this file with their life! They almost never post it to the hosting account and never tell the client that this file exists and is needed. For the uninformed, this can lead to thousands of dollars as the previous designer is tracked down or the site is rebuilt.

Wow that’s a lot of problems! And that’s only counting accessibility issues. In part 2, we’ll examine how these sites affect your potential customer base and your bottom line, but that’s all for now!

Stillwater fly fishing can be very rewarding and enjoyable. Some anglers believe that it is necessary to own specialized gear in order to fly fish on lakes and lochs. While specialized gear can be helpful, it’s not always necessary to have long heavier rods or sinking lines. Fishing from the bank or shore will often get an angler into feeding fish, so even watercraft are not always required.

When fishing ponds and lakes, I will often use a 5 wt. rod with floating line. Flies will depend on local insect activity, but include everything from dry flies when the fish are taking them, nymphs, streamers, Wet Flies and chironomids.

There are times when I will want to use some other gear such as sinking lines. When there is no action near the surface, I like to take along a cassette reel system that has spools of different line types. This means I can quickly change my line when searching for fish at various depths. My preference is to use Sixth Sense fly lines, and I’ll carry the “slow glass” which sinks just under the surface; a line that sinks at the rate of 3″ per second; line that sinks at the rate of 5″ per second; and finally, one that sinks at 7″ per second.

When fishing for larger fish in lakes, I also prefer a heavier rod of at least 10 1/2 feet in length. These rods are also helpful when casting in windy conditions.

When the fish are not biting within casting distance of the shore or bank, having some type of watercraft is of course an advantage. If you are on a budget but want to get out away from the shore, consider an inflatable float tube. They are easily transported and can make stillwater fly fishing very enjoyable!

A Clear Overview to a Float Fishing Excursion in Alaska

Alaska float fishing, or angling, is likely the best on the planet. The fish are plentiful, the views incredible and the experience is unforgettable. And, if you’re a beginner float fisher, there are a number of experienced tour and fishing companies that offer a complete fishing adventure. So, keep reading for a general explanation of angling, great spots in Alaska and how to find more information.

What is Angling?

Angling is a method or type of sport fishing. The hook is attached to a line and fishing rod, and it’s basically the most popular form of recreational fishing, as opposed to nets. A float is used to suspend the bait and also serve as a bit indicator. So, when a fish bites the bait, the float moves and the fisherman knows to pull his line.

Alaska Fishing Licenses

When planning an Alaska float fishing vacation, remember that you’ll need a fishing license, and the cost is different for non-state residents. A tourist’s fishing license in Alaska is $20 per day, $35 for a 3-day stay, $55 for seven days and $80 for fourteen days.

To fish king salmon, you’ll need a special stamp which is $10 per day, $20 for three days, $30 for a week and $50 for two weeks. Most fishing lodges and guide companies can arrange for your license ahead of time.

Hot Fishing Spots in Alaska

While Alaska has an abundant fish supply and some incredible fishing locations, it can often be about your timing and knowing where the fish will be. That’s why a guide or tour can really help your fishing trip be a success. However, the best spots for fishing in Alaska are Kodiak Island, the Kenai River and the Copper River Delta and Bristol Bay.

Kodiak Island is known for its abundance of salmon and great roadside and float fishing. The Kenai River has massive king salmon, but they’re fast and strong, making them hard to catch for a beginner fisher and not the best for float fishing.

The Copper River Delta is rich in fish, but fast, meaning it’s not recommended for beginners nor really ideal for relaxed float fishing. The Kenai River has the world’s biggest king salmon, but the fish are fast and powerful and the trout are minimal. Meanwhile, Kodiak Island is crammed with spawning salmon, but along with very well-fed bears.

Additional Resources

If you need additional information on Alaska float fishing, guidelines or quality charters or lodges, try the Alaska Department of Fish and Game Sport Division. Their website can be found at sf.adfg.state.ak.us and they offer a wealth of information on great fishing spots, the best seasons and recommended fishing companies and lodges.

An exciting fishing trip in Alaska can be for many a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to enjoy the equisite wilderness, beautiful waters, and great fish available for the taking. By preparing in advance, a vacationer can reap the benefits of the great outdoors without needing to bother with those details upon arrival.

Orange Oil Termite Control

First of all, I highly recommend hiring a trained and licensed inspector to determine the extent of your termite infestations. The type of termite and their location will determine what type of treatment would be effective for your home. Orange Oil or (D-limonene) based termite and pest control products are not considered an alternative to tenting as the two processes are completely different and offer different pros and cons. Understanding the advantages and disadvantages will help you make an educated decision when selecting your control method.

If you’re considering orange oil termite control make sure you find a qualified termite company that offers traditional treatments and fumigation as well. This way you will get an unbiased opinion regarding your specific termite control needs. No infestation is the same and no single treatment method can handle every type of termite infestation.

Orange oil products contain the active ingredient d-limonene. D-limonene is extracted from the rinds of oranges, and it’s the same chemical found in many household products. Due to d-limonene’s low toxicity, it has become increasingly popular and the preferred termite control method for many home owners and industries. Orange oil is also used in the manufacturing of resins, cleaning compounds, and as a fragrance additive in many products.

An orange oil treatment for termites is localized spot application of each identified termite infestation and will only kill termites in the areas treated. Treatment with orange oil requires drilling into the infested wood members and injecting the product into the termite galleries. Orange oil is effective for drywood termites, not subterranean termite infestations.

Orange oil termite control is an effective method of treatment but don’t believe that traditional treatments and fumigation are no longer valid options that should be discarded. Only tent fumigation can guarantee complete drywood termite eradication of an entire structure at once. Here’s why, 90-95% of a buildings wood framing is covered by drywall, plaster, flooring, insulation, paint, roofing, stucco and so on. Localized treatment with orange oil will only control the infestation in the areas where an infestation can be identified and treated. Termites spread by swarming (flying) and can land in the most secluded places in a structure to begin a new infestation; if you can’t get to that area for a thorough inspection then you will have no knowledge of the need for treatment in that area either. So the question comes back, does every house need to be fumigated? The answer is “no”. It depends on the areas of infestation, level of infestations, size and age of the colonies, type of termites you have, and whether or not your going to be satisfied with the idea of controlling your home or structures termite infestations or you want them completely eradicated from the structure all at once.

Things To Know About Fly Fishing!

Fly fishing is one of those sports where you get out what you put in.
If you put in a genuine effort you will get lots of fun and excitement from the sport.
Anyone who takes up fly fishing Must Have patience, be willing to practice their cast and be willing to learn about their chosen sport.

You must be willing to learn new ideas and practice them, but not keep switching from one to another. Anyone doing this will not perfect anything, always changing one idea for another and not allowing to get anything right. The ones with knowledge about their tackle, the place they are fishing at and the fish they are trying to catch will have much more success than those who just turn up not knowing anything of what they are trying to do.

There are more than 10,000 different types of flies and to find the best one for the job can be trial and error. As a rule you use bright flies on a sunny day and dark coloured flies on a cloudy or overcast day.

The green butt skunk fly is mainly black with a bright green piece of yarn, these flies are used a lot for Salmon but also used around the world with good effect.

The jock scott is one of the best flies for most seasons and waters. This delicate fishing fly can take hours to make with lots of different materials involved.

The thunder and lightening is a deep orange, gold, brown and black, perfect for cloudy or dark days and cloudy waters. This is one of the most popular fishing flies for catching salmon today. These are just a few of the most popular fishing flies used but you do not have to stick with these, if you find a fly that works for you then great.

Dry Fly fishing is when you cast your fly to a predetermined spot on the water and try to get the fish to attack the fly, but also trying to strike before the fish spits the fly back out.
Wet Fly fishing lets the fly sink just under the surface and pass by the fish causing the fish to strike at the fly. The most common fish to catch with a fly are salmon, trout and most fresh water fish.

Below are some of the terms associated with fly fishing which may help you understand?
Pool an area of water where it is fast flowing and entering a deeper pool of water.
It offers good prospects of a variety of fish in the area where the water flows in.

Riffle an area where the fast flowing water is broken up by some solid object in the water, the area just behind the object in the water is often good as insects will settle here and so will the fish.

Dead water is as the name implies, very still with no current and not usually a good place to fish.

Some of the other places to find fish is where there is a shady area or vegetation growing out of the water.

Choosing & Flying a Kite

<p>This section of the shop is here to provide you with the right information to choose the perfect <a href=”http://www.skyhighkites.co.uk” title=”SkyHighKites | Power Kites, Flexifoil, ATB Boards, Stunt Kites, Power Kites, Childrens Kites, Flexifoil, RC Flying Power Toys, Disney Kites | Sky High Kites”>kite</a> for the flyer, some of our kites are suitable for very small children, while others should be given the greatest respect by competent adult pilots.</p>

<p>First of all we’ll tell you a little about the different types of <a href=”http://www.skyhighkites.co.uk” title=”SkyHighKites | Power Kites, Flexifoil, ATB Boards, Stunt Kites, Power Kites, Childrens Kites, Flexifoil, RC Flying Power Toys, Disney Kites | Sky High Kites”>kites</a> we sell..</p>

<h2>Mini Kites</h2>

<p>Generally these kites are no bigger than a foot across, ideally suited for the youngest flyers, they can fly in the slightest of winds and simple to fly, a single line attached to the kite means that they can be flown with ease. On the whole the Mini Kite range is the cheapest range of kites we stock, which also makes them great birthday presents for young children. As these kites are made and sold with young children in mind, safety is of paramount importance, their small size means even in a worst case scenario of the kite being crashed into someone it is unlikely to cause any injury. Please also read the section below on safe kite flying.</p>

<h2>Diamond Kites</h2>

<p>The classic kite shape, unchanged for centuries, but now available in a huge range of styles and sizes. The diamond is a suitable first kite for children and is a very easy to fly style of kite, although some consideration should be given to the size of the kite as we sell many different sizes of diamond kite and some of the larger kites may be unsuitable for smaller children. Diamond kites generally require only the slightest of breezes to fly and can reach a high altitude quite easily, most can also be easily adjusted for the angle of flying to ensure a stable flight in a wide range of wind conditions, although they are best flown in a moderate wind coming from a constant direction. Diamond kites can usually be disassembled easily by removing the horizontal strut, which makes them easy to store and transport. Please also read the section below on safe kite flying.</p>

<h2>Creature Kites</h2>

<p>Creature kites are available in a wide range of shapes and sizes, and as the name suggests they represent a creature, which could be something you’d expect to see in the sky, like a bird or butterfly or something you may not expect to see soaring through the air like an octopus or frog. Some are diamond in form, some are delta, but some are purely custom shapes to represent the creature. They are 99% single lined, and therefore an easy kite to fly for the novice pilot and very appealing to the young pilot. Usually requiring a moderate wind to fly they are a low drag kite which means they’re not going to pull you about when you fly them but can easily reach a good height with little effort. Please also read the section below on safe kite flying.</p>

<h2>Delta Kites (Not to be confused with delta stunt kites)</h2>

<p>Delta kites are named after their delta-wing shape, a slanted triangle design, very aerodynamic and able to fly in very gentle breezes. Alike to a birds wings or an aeroplanes body. They are a single line kite and simple to fly, suitable for young pilots they represent a change to the standard diamond shaped kite and are more suitable than the diamond to changable winds, although not suitable for strong winds as they tend to ‘corkscrew’ in the air. Available in a wide range of sizes, shapes and colours they are a very fun kite to fly and will be an enjoyable gift for any child, check the size of the kite though as some are bigger than others and the larger ones may not be ideally suited for the youngest of pilots. Please also read the section below on safe kite flying.</p>

<h2>Box Kites</h2>

<p>Another age-old design, the box kite, flies in a different fashion to other kites in that the air passes through the kite to create lift rather than push against a solid face. They usually look as though they shouldn’t fly, but in fact are one of the most graceful flying kites there are. Not available in as many forms as the diamond kite, but every one is beautiful in it’s own way. They are suitable for children as they produce very little drag, but may also appeal to the adult flyers out there, in fact they are the ideal gift for active grandparents to accompany their grandchildren when they’re flying their kites. Single flying line guarantees an easy flying experience. Please also read the section below on safe kite flying.</p>

<h2>Stunt Kites</h2>

<p>Getting a bit more complicated now than the previously mentioned kites, stunt kites get their name from their ability to perform tricks in the hands of the pilot, this is down to their 2 string control method, which by shortening or lengthening one of the strings by pulling or extending one of the control handles makes the kite take a different course through the air, practice will allow the pilot to perform amazing loops, dives and climbs with ease. Not the perfect choice for smaller children, but will be greatly received by older children, and also adults, for who we stock a wide range of high end stunt kites. When browsing our shop note that the stunt kites are divided into different sections; childrens, novice, advanced and expert, this is generally dictated by the size of the kite – the larger ones produce more pull and require more tug on the lines to perform their tricks. Please also read the section below on safe kite flying.</p>

<h2>Power Kites</h2>

<p>Finally we reach the cutting edge of 21st century kiting – The power kite, ever more popular and our best selling kites. <a href=”http://www.skyhighkites.co.uk” title=”SkyHighKites | Power Kites, Flexifoil, ATB Boards, Stunt Kites, Power Kites, Childrens Kites, Flexifoil, RC Flying Power Toys, Disney Kites | Sky High Kites”>Powerkites</a> are named for just that reason – they take the maximum power from the wind, flying a power kite is not about watching it gracefully soar into the air, it’s all about the drag. Even the smallest power kite can produce an outstanding amount of pull, and the largest can even make you take off! Always take care when choosing a power kite that the person you’re buying it for will be able to cope with it. Safety is of maximum importance when flying a power kite and that’s why we stock a wide range of safety equipment to accompany the power kites, such as kite killers (specially designed wristbands which will allow the kite to drop out of the sky in an emergency), and a range of protective body wear; like gloves, pads and helmets. We recommend that you work your way up through the sizes of power kite and don’t just jump in at a huge 6 metre kite without prior experience. Safety aside, power kites are popular for one reason, they’re so fun to use, whether you fly it on it’s own or combine it with an ATB (off-road kite powered skateboard) or a buggy, they produce a huge amount of power which is very exciting to be at the end of. Smaller power kites tend to be 2 lined, whilst larger ‘traction’ kites are generally 4 lined, which require some form of handles or harness to fly them, sometimes these are supplied with the kite or they are available seperately. Again we have to stress the safety point with power kites, fly safely, know your limits and most of all choose the time and place to fly your power kite with the greatest of care, for yourself and other people. Please also read the section below on safe kite flying. And see our special page on flying power kites safely. </p>

<h2>Safe Kite Flying</h2>

<p><strong>Location</strong> – Select a location that is free of obstruction such as houses and trees that can pose a danger to your kite and the public, and even more importantly do not fly your kite anywhere near power lines, substations or airports. Make sure wind conditions are right for your particular kite. Also make sure that as well as preventing damage to yourself and your kite, that you are going to fly in an area where you are not going to cause harm to anyone else or any wildlife, a beach is a perfect place, but make sure that there are no people around you if you are using a large or powerful kite. Also be aware of changing weather conditions, if you think there may be a storm approaching, quickly and carefully cease your flying activities, a kite can act as a lightning conductor when it is damp, and even if there’s no lightning, excessive winds can damage or destroy your kite, or just pull it from your hands, which in the case of children can be very upsetting.</p>

<p><strong>Launching</strong> – With the wind at your back, take the kite about 50 feet or more downwind and have a friend hold it up, pulling the line tight. As your kite catches the wind, pull on the line handle until the kite gains altitude. Smaller kites can be launched from a smaller distance than this. Ensure you quickly give the kite lines some length after launch as the wind tends to swirl close to the floor and can quickly bring your kite back down. Ensure that there is no chance of wrapping the lines around another person or yourself as this can be dangerous in changable wind conditions.</p>

<p><strong>Landing</strong> – Release the tension on the line of your kite and this will allow it to drift to the ground, quickly retreive or immobolise your kite as it can easily take off again in the right conditions. Choose a suitable place away from water and busy public places for this. You may also find that you can just wind your kite back onto the string and as your kite is approaching the ground it can be caught and held for you while you finish winding it up.</p>

<p>Above everything else USE YOUR COMMON SENSE, and constantly be aware of your environment, the wind is always changing and can only be guessed at. Keep aware of other people coming close to you and always supervise young children when flying kites. When you follow the necessary safety steps kite flying can be one of the most enjoyable pastimes all year round. Thank you for reading – and fly safely.</p>
